Sauder's West Highland Terriers

All About Us

Here is where I can tell you a bit that is just all about me and the making of "Sauder's West Highland White Terrier Kennel" and also all of my four legged furry family.

I have loved animals all my life. Sometimes I am sure my husband would rather I didn't love animals so much and then we could lead what some of my people family refer to as a normal life, such as vacations and stuff.  We have had one vacation for a week in the last seventeen years.  We actually came home a day early as I had enough of being away.  I couldn't wait to get back home to check the hairy monsters.

I must admit I appreciate my husband's support and couldn't make my dream of raising puppies come true without him.  Thank you Gord.

Growing up in the country,  I got to live out my dream of being an animal nut and being surrounded by various critters.  I have had everything from turtles, hedge hogs, a prairie dog named Rover, alpacas, llamas and the normal string of animals also such as horses, goats, or pigs.  But my first love is and always has been dogs.  I can't even imagine not having a few around.

I had always said way back before I was even a teenager that sometime in my life when the timing was right I was going to live out my dream of breeding dogs.  Well that is what started "Sauder's West Highland White Terrier Kennel".

I am always surprised by how many people inquire about a puppy that have never owned or should I say have never been owned by a dog and have not experienced the joy, pleasure and friendship that only a dog can supply.  Sometimes I think dogs are a lot easier to get along with then people.

I sometimes tell my kids if I had known what the teenager years were like I would have stuck to my dogs. Oh well we made it through the dreaded teenage years and my kids have both flown the coop.  They know I am only kidding and I love both my daughters and my grand daughter.  Grand children are fun, you can spoil them rotten and then send them home.  Great!!  If I had known grand kids were so much fun I would have had them first!!  I read that somewhere and thought it was great.

I was talking to a friend one day and we were discussing how many times we have been without dogs in our lives for various reasons.  Well in my case there has never been a time where I didn't have at least one or possibly more furry friends around.  Can't even imagine it!!

I have taken puppies and dogs to training classes over the years and thoroughly enjoyed that.  The dogs really enjoyed themselves too, especially if they get to go with me through the drive through afterwards and have a Tim Bit while I drink my coffee.

Now starting in 2007 we have finally made it to the CKC conformation show ring.  I have imported some show potential puppies with top champion pedigrees from overseas from a world famous top show kennel and breeder.  These exceptional puppies have wonderful champion pedigrees and I have two wonderful professional handlers that are hitting the CKC conformation ring with them.  These pups will be a valued asset to Sauder's Kennel.  Just because our dogs have not made it to the show ring prior to 2007 does not mean that they are not champions in our eyes and everyone that meets them.  I still think health and temperament are the two main reasons for breeding, not a dog that looks perfect when stacked on a table.  If you manage to get exceptional show quality puppies from a litter that is the icing on the cake.  I strive to raise quality companion animals not show stock.  I also have plans for another import pup with an exceptional pedigree to arrive from overseas in September 2007 from another world famous top show kennel and breeder.  So with luck I will keep my pro handlers busy and we will get lots of wins.

Temperament and health are so much more important to me than a wall full of ribbons.  I do not believe I need a wall of ribbons to prove I have happy and healthy dogs with exceptional temperaments that produce happy and healthy puppies with great personalities. My reason for breeding is to produce quality healthy companion pets that will go on to be someone's best friend and a wonderful family addition for many, many years to come.

I have also donated a westie pup to the Lion's Foundation of Canada in 2005. He may work in the Hearing Ear Program or wherever he is best suited for after his training. The Lion's Foundation will see what sector he works best in.

I have received news in December 2006 that this westie has graduated from the hearing ear program and is now a certified working hearing ear dog.  I am sure that this exceptional puppy will make his owner's life a lot easier.  He will be her ears.  Here is a picture of the new pair together at the Lion's Foundation Graduation night in Oakville, Ontario.

Here is a picture of one of the sires at Sauder's West Highland White Terrier Kennel.  He is an exceptional westie with great personality and produces lovely puppies.
He lives to please and does a great job.

This is one of the dams at Sauder's West Highland White Terrier Kennel.  She has had fabulous puppies for us.  What a ham!! She will sit and pose for the camera for hours.  But give her a squeaky toy and watch out, her world changes.

I have been fortunate with my westies health and temperament. My dogs have been great and I attribute a lot of it to proper care and nutrition.

I also had a westie puppy make it in a dog magazine advertising for the Delta Chelsea Hotel in Toronto, Ontario Canada.  Lucky little boy.

I just received news that a smart little lad that I had born here at Sauder's Kennel has become very photogenic and is going to be featured in many calendars for the 2008 year.  Way to go!

I feel if you start with healthy stable tempered dogs you can raise wonderful puppies that will light up someone's life and make it complete.  A puppy or dog can add something that no other animal can.

All prospective puppy purchasers should please realize that a puppy is a very big commitment and responsibility for possibly the next fifteen years or so.  All puppy purchasers should take purchasing a puppy as seriously as I do breeding a litter. They should not enter into this without having done a vast amount of research on the breed and also they should make sure they are totally committed to making the puppy into the wonderful  dog it can grow up to be.  Sauder's Kennel gives all their puppies the best possible start for eight weeks and then after that it is up to the new puppy owner to finish the puppy and make it the true star it can become by supplying the puppy with proper care, training and love.

Hope this tells you a bit all about me and my westies.  If you ever have any questions about any of my four legged family or upcoming litters or puppies please feel free to drop me an email at kimberley.sauder@sympatico.ca

Remember there is no such thing as a stupid question.  I want people to feel they can ask me anything.

Thanks and enjoy the website.
